The Collective Care Project is a practice in building the worlds we want to live in.
How CCP came into existance
CCP grew out of years of work across grassroots movements, nonprofit organizations, and the mental health field.
Across these settings, we noticed a recurrent tension:
Groups with anti-oppressive visions and justice-oriented missions were still reproducing familiar patterns of power, coercion, hierarchy, and harm within their own relationships and structures.
At the same time, individual and collective responses to those dynamics were often separated.
Mental health work could focus on helping people cope with the effects of oppressive conditions, without ever changing those conditions.
While organizations and organizational work could focus on changing structures without making enough space for the histories, relationships, and survival patterns people brought into those institutions, or knowing how to disrupt and transform them.
CCP emerged from the need for another way of working - one that could hold these realities together.
The worlds we want to build have to be practiced through different ways of relating.
We bring together mental health, organizational development, grassroots organizing, and popular education to support people and communities in practicing new ways of relating, organizing, and caring for one another.Guiding Principles 4 CCP
